Mustered September 18, 1861, Co. H 33rd Ohio Infantry Regiment, Portsmouth, Ohio. Promoted Corporal November 1, 1861. Volunteered Andrews Raid April 7, 1862. Promoted 2nd Lieutenant, April 27, 1863; 1st Lieutenant, May 25, 1864. Hospitalized May 23, 1864, Lookout Mountain, TN. Resigned with disability August 24, 1864, Chattanooga, TN. Captured April 13, 1862, near Ringgold, GA; escaped Fulton County jail, Atlanta, GA, October 16, 1862. Rejoined Union lines November 18, 1862, Somerset, KY. Saw action in Andrews Raid; at Battle of Chickamauga, GA, September, 1863. Awarded Medal of Honor September 15, 1863. Pension $40 per month, No. 138123. |
