Five feet 6.5 inches tall, light complexion, light hair, blue eyes; 25 years, 2 months, and 18 days of age on the day of the Raid. Railroad engineer. Gave lectures on the Raid after the War.

Born January 24, 1837, Apple Creek, Wayne County, Ohio to Matthew Knight; mother unknown.

Died September 26, 1916, Stryker, Ohio.

Buried Stryker Cemetery, September 30, 1916. No Medal of Honor marker at grave.

Married Emma F. Oldfield, August 30, 1868, Defiance, Ohio. (b. September 8, 1848; d. June 27, 1940).

Enrolled August 19, 1861, Co. E 21st Ohio Infantry Regiment, three years, Findlay, Ohio. Mustered same unit September 19, 1861. Transferred Co. G 115th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment, March 13, 1863. Volunteered for Andrews Raid, April 7, 1862. Discharged September 28, 1864, Nashville, TN, expiration term of service.

Saw action in Andrews Raid; at Battle of Stones River, December 31, 1862.

Captured following the Raid; taken to Knoxville, TN for trial but not tried; escaped Fulton County Jail, Atlanta, GA, October 16, 1862. Rejoined Union lines November 25, 1862, Somerset, KY.

Awarded Medal of Honor September, 1863.

Pension $30 per month at time of death.
