Enrolled in service under name of Charles P. Shadrack, also known as Perry; 21 years, 6 months, 27 days of age on day of the Raid. Born September 15, 1840, Somerset County, PA, to Robert and Elizabeth Shadrach. Hanged June 18, 1862, at southeast corner of Fair Street (now Memorial Drive) and South Park Avenue, Atlanta, GA. Buried temporarily at site of execution. Remains removed to the National Cemetery, Chattanooga, TN, April 25, 1866. Buried near Ohio Memorial, Section H, Grave No. 11,181. Never married. Enlisted as Private Co. K 2nd Ohio Infantry Regiment; served three years. Enlisted at Mitchell Salt Works. Volunteered for Andrews Raid, April 7, 1862, and was captured soon after. Court-martialed, Knoxville, TN, General Orders No. 54, 1862, HQ Department of East Tennessee, CSA. No Medal of Honor. |
