Born 1840, Hamilton, Ohio, to Balser and Harriet Swanton Wollam (d. July 18, 1875), married Aug. 13, 1833.

Died Sept. 25, 1890, Topeka, Kan.

Buried Fairmont Cemetery, Jackson, Ohio, Sept. 29-30, 1890.

Enrolled Co. C 33rd Ohio Inf. Regt. August 24, 1861. Mustered Aug. 27, 1861, Camp Morrow, Portsmouth, Ohio. Volunteered Andrews Raid. Discharged Oct. 10, 1864, Acworth, GA., expiration of term of service.

Saw action in Andrews Raid; at Battle of Chickamauga, Ga.; in the Atlanta, Ga., campaign.

Captured April 1862; escaped Swims Jail, Chattanooga, Tenn.; recaptured 1862; escaped Fulton County Jail, Atlanta, GA., Oct. 16, 1862. Reached Federal lines near Corinth, Miss., Nov. 18, 1862. Captured Sept. 19, 1863; escaped February 1864.

Awarded Medal of Honor July 20, 1864.

Pension $24 per month, effective July 16, 1888, No. 407,429.
